America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves

The 200th birthday of Abraham Lincoln's will take place in February 2009. In order to commerate the event Congress established a 15-member Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission (ALBC) and mandated the Commission to not only renew the American appreciation of Lincoln's legacy; but also, to celebrate the life and legacy of Lincoln while reinvigorating his thoughts, ideals and spirit throughout America and around the world. And so a year of Lincoln will be celebrated throughout 2009

Abraham Lincoln was our nation's 16th president and was born on February 12, 1809. Along with George Washington and Franklin Delano Roosevelt he is considered one of the three greatest Presidents of the United States. Most of us know him as "Honest Abe" or the President who freed the slaves. Linclon certianly wa more complex than those descriptions. This "book" project will contain a montly exploration of this unique man. I hope to give a brief overview of the life of Abraham Lincoln and flesh out his life. My hope is that by the end of the year we will have a greater understanding of Abraham Lincoln and his legacy in the 21st century.

All essays will originally be published in the newsletter of the American Civil War Socity (ASWS). Three weeks later thay will find their way here. I hope you will enjoy the series and let us know what you think about it.
